Betfred Horse Racing Extra Place RacesBookmakers want your business. We can dress it up however you’d like, but the long and short of it is that they want you to place your bets with them, so they will often look for ways to appeal to customers and get them to use their services rather than those of another betting company.

In the case of Betfred, one of the offers that they have includes offering extra places on certain races, meaning that you can receive a payout on a horse when you might not ordinarily have expected to. The offer isn’t on all races, however, so you need to know which races to look out for.

What the Offer Includes

This is very much one of those ‘does what it says on the tin’ offers, in many ways. In short, new and existing Betfred customers can take advantage of the promotion, which sees certain races receive payouts on more places than would ordinarily be the case. That is to say, it might well be that the race that you’re looking to bet on would normally only see the top three placed horses receive a payout, but because it’s part of the promotion it will instead be the top four horses that will be paid out on. You don’t need to do anything specific, other than bet on the correct races.

The only bets that will qualify for the promotion are those that are placed on one of the nominated races on the day of the event. In terms of the bets that are allowed, only each-way single or each-way multiple bets will be paid out on the extra places. You can’t place a bet ante post and qualify for the offer, whilst there are also some limitations around the dead heat rules that you’ll need to bear in mind. If you do place a bet on a horse that finishes in the extended places market, though, you will receive your payout when the race market in general is settled. For this promotion, dead heat rules will apply.

Minimum Runners

For the places to be enhanced on a particular race a a certain number of horse must run. This is worth bearing in mind if a few horses have been pulled out since placing your bet.

  • 3 Places: Standard rules will apply if there are fewer than 7 runners
  • 4 Places: Standard rules will apply if there are fewer than 12 runners
  • 5 Places: Standard rules will apply if there are fewer than 16 runners at 1/5 of the odds

What Else You Might Need to Know

The Betfred management will be responsible for deciding the outcome in the event of any sort of dispute and their decision will be final. Obviously, the company has the right to exclude any customers that it sees fit from being able to take advantage of the promotion, which will usually be because there are staking restrictions in place on an account or because of internal risk policies. Customers that are not allowed to take advantage of the promotion will usually be informed about that separately, often because they have restrictions on their account.

Betfred can change or remove the offer whenever they like. If a race gets designated as a super extra place race but then gets altered to become an extra place race, the company’s best odds guarantee will not apply. Any scenarios that are beyond the control of the company can also result in the promotion being removed, such as if there is a systems failure or the supplier decides to withdraw, the promotion may also be removed. Betfred hopes to communicate this withdrawal in a timely manner, but it is worth bearing in mind that such a thing could happen for any number of different reasons.

The Kinds of Races Chosen for the Promotion

As you might imagine, Betfred will look to put this promotion in place across various races as the company sees fit. That means that there is no hard and fast rule around when or why a race might be chosen to be included in the offer. Even how the offer itself will be worked will be different from race to race, so it is always worth checking Betfred’s terms and conditions for the promotion in order to ensure that you’re betting on a race that will pay extra places, if that’s something that matters to you. As always, we would counsel against using the offer just for the purpose of doing so.

That is to say, if you were planning on betting on the race in question in the first place, then you should absolutely look into what the offer entails. If, on the other hand, you weren’t going to place a wager on that specific race or, worse, don’t tend to bet on horse races in general, you should not suddenly decide to do so simply because there is a promotion to pay out on extra places.

In the example above we can see that there are two races paying 5 places instead of 4, six races paying 4 places instead of 3 and two races paying 3 places instead of 2. We haven’t given any specific examples of races with extra places as this will change on a daily basis and during the day when field sizes alter due to non runners.
