Betting on greyhound racing was once one of the main activities that punters in the United Kingdom would do with their time. Dog tracks were located all around the country, with millions of people heading along to watch greyhounds run around tracks that were very similar to the ones in existence today. Unfortunately, sometimes the dog that you bet on, no matter how much research you’ve done and how confident you feel, ends up missing out to the race favourite. If you’ve placed your bet with BoyleSports and that happens, the company could give you your stake money back, up to a value of £20, as a free bet.
Free Bet if Your Greyhound Just Misses Out
From a bettor’s point of view, there is a lot to like about BoyleSports’ promotion around selected greyhound meetings. You can do all the research you want and be as confident as possible regarding the bet that you’re placing, but sometimes the favourite just does what favourites can do and wins the race. Oftentimes, seeing your chosen dog come in second would be disappointing, but the good news is that BoyleSports could refund your stake as a free bet if your chosen greyhound comes close but misses out in that sort of manner. You don’t even need to opt-in in order to take advantage.
Instead, you just need to place your bet on one of the meetings that is being covered by the offer. Obviously the best thing to do is to check out the website in order to find out which meetings are part of the promotion, then place your bets accordingly. Obviously your main aim should be to select a greyhound that will win the race, but if the only come second and it’s the SP favourite that they miss out to, you at least know that you can use your stake for something else on account of the fact that you could get it returned to you as a free bet for use on any sport covered by the company.
The Small Print Matters
There is no surprise to learn that there are all sorts of small print details in place for the promotion, which is just as much about ensuring that you understand what it is that you’re getting in the way of the offer as it is about the company protecting itself. Perhaps the key thing to remember is that the most that you’ll get refunded to you as a free bet is £20. That doesn’t meant that your original bet can only be for £20, but rather that you will get a maximum of £20 back in the event that your chosen greyhound comes second to the favourite. In other words, a £50 bet will result in £20 coming back to you and £30 being lost.
The offer doesn’t apply to ante-post wagers, nor can you use it on combined odds offers. You need to select a named greyhound to make use of the offer, so you can’t leave it to fate by selecting the ‘Unnamed 2nd Fav’. If you bet is made void for some reason then you won’t be able to apply the offer, but that doesn’t really matter given the fact that you would typically expect to get your stake back in such instances anyway. If the race ends as a dead heat for first, the offer won’t apply. Should you place more than one bet on the same race, only the first one that you place will qualify for the promotion and future ones won’t.
In some races, there isn’t one outright favourite. Instead, there are be joint favourites. If that happens in the race that you’re betting on then both of the greyhounds in question will be counted as favourites, so you will get your refund provided your dog comes second and one of them comes first. The promotion is only in place on races that have five or more runners, whilst first past the post results are the only ones that will be looked at when it comes to settle the bets. The refund is in place on straight win single bets and the win part of each-way single bets.
Using Your Free Bet
As you will know doubt be aware from other such promotions, you can’t use previously granted free bet in order to place your bet and then expect the offer to be in place. If you are in the position whereby your greyhound has come in second and the dog that has beaten it is the SP favourite, you can get the free bet refund in line with what your stake amount was added to your account within 24 hours. At that point, the usual rules and regulations will come into play. They say that you can use it on any sport covered by their sports book and that it will remain valid for seven days.
If you want to know whether you have been granted a free bet or not, you just need to look at the top of the sports book page on the company’s app, with free bet balances appearing there next to your normal balance. It is important to remember that you can’t use it to cover part of a larger bet. In other words, if you have a £10 free and wish to place a £20 wager, you’ll either need to place your bet using cash only or else reduce the stake amount to £10. If you use your free bet and it wins, any returns you are paid will not include the free bet stake amount.
