Horse racing is one of the most popular sports in the world to bet on and with good reason; get your selections right and you can seen see your bankroll increase. It is also an incredibly frustrating sport to bet on, thanks in no small part to the fact that there are so many variables that influence the eventual outcome. Whilst favourites often do win, they don’t win often enough for betting on them race-in, race-out to be any sort of reliable strategy. Imagine how annoying it is, therefore, when you bet on a horse other than the favourite and your horse comes second. That is why Grosvenor are offering you cash back if that happens to your bet.
What the Offer Says
Grosvenor are looking to appeal to horse racing enthusiasts by offering them something of a salve to those moments when your chosen horse comes second in a race to the starting price (SP) favourite. If you sit down to watch a horse race that you’ve got a bet on, you will know exactly how your chosen horse is doing throughout the race. You’ll see as it moves into second with one to jump in a National Hunt event, for example, but then get that sinking feeling when the favourite goes through the gears and moves into the lead on the home straight, pipping your selection to the post by a frustrating head.
Whilst that is obviously hugely frustrating, the good news is that you’ve placed your bet on certain races with Grosvenor then they will give you your stake back as cash in instances where that happens. In order to qualify for the promotion you will need to have placed a bet of at least £5 or £5 each-way on a qualifying race, getting back up to £20 to make you feel a little bit better about it all. In the past Grosvenor have offered the promotion on all of the races run course such as Cartmel, Windsor, Lingfield and Wolverhampton, as well as throughout big festivals such as Cheltenham and Royal Ascot to give you examples of the sort of meetings that you can expect to be able to bet on using this promotion.
Thinking About the Small Print
As is always the case, bookmakers put some small print in place to ensure that all parties know what the offer in question actually is. In the case of Grosvenor’s Cash Back if Second to the SP Favourite refund promotion, the small print is mostly about how much money you can get back as cash when you take advantage of the offer. You need to bet £5 or more, which equates to £10 or more if you’re placing an each-way bet, and the most that you will receive back is £20. That doesn’t mean that you can’t bet more than £20 if you fancy, but that £20 is the limit in terms of what you’re going to get returned to you as cash by Grosvenor if your horse comes second to the favourite.
The small print also explains that the offer is only on on selected races, so make sure you know that you’re betting on the correct ones if you’re looking to take advantage of it. Then bets must be placed on the ‘To Win’ market, with only the win part of each-way bets eligible for the refund. The refund will be given on the first cash bet that you place on the race, so don’t use free bet tokens if you want to be included in the promotion. Any bets that are made void, duplicates, cashed out or placed using odds boosts won’t qualify, nor will you be able to take advantage of the offer on races with fewer than five horses running in them.
Getting Your Money Back as Cash
Arguably the best thing about the promotion is that you get your money back as cash. That is way better than getting it back as a free bet as it doesn’t have any wagering requirements attached to it and means that you can just withdraw your money as you see fit. Obviously you might choose to place another bet with it, but it is better to have the choice to do it. The horse that you’ve bet on has to finish second to the favourite, which might well be different to the favourite when you placed your bet, so make sure that you check that out if you don’t get paid out when you’re expecting to.
In order for the promotion to kick in, the minimum odds for the favourite have to be Evens or greater. The offer doesn’t count if you opt to bet on the unnamed second favourite market. If there is a joint favourite, the horse with the lower number on the race card will be considered to be the starting price favourite for the purposes of the promotion. The offer won’t apply if the race ends up being a dead heat, with the refund being issued according to the official result only. You will usually get your stake refunded to you within a period of 24 hours. All of Grosvenor’s normal terms and conditions also apply to the offer.
