It’s rare that things happening at the last minute turn out to be good things. Your train getting cancelled when you’re standing on the platform with all your bags, for example, or a date texting you to tell you that they’re not coming after all. Some things aren’t too bad, I suppose. A last minute holiday is often cheaper than one booked in advance. A goal scored right at the end of a game to give your team the win can be glorious, too.

On the whole, though, things happening at the last moment aren’t normally good news. That’s especially the case when it comes to betting on football matches, with goals scored in the dying moments of a match just as likely to ruin your bet as to save it. It’s such an annoying phenomenon that it earned the nickname “Fergie Time”, thanks to Manchester United’s extraordinarily irritating habit of scoring in injury time under their Scottish manager. Thankfully, Unibet’s 90+ Cashback offer has returned to put some joy back into last minute happenings.

What’s the Deal?

This promotion sees you get your stake money refunded into your account if a goal is scored after the ninetieth minute of a match. The offer is for games played in the Champions League, Premier League or Spain’s La Liga and is valid on the following markets:

  • Correct Score
  • Half-Time / Full-Time
  • First Goalscorer
  • Last Goalscorer

The offer is for bets of over £5 and up to £30, meaning that if your stake is below £5 or more than £30 then your bet won’t be eligible for this promotion. Obviously, the goal needs to be scored in injury time, so extra-time goals won’t count. In terms of the first goalscorer and last goalscorer markets, own goals aren’t taken into consideration.

How Likely Is It That Goals Will Be Scored So Late?

If you’ve got an eagle-eye then you might have noticed that I mentioned in my introduction that Unibet’s 90+ Cashback offer has ‘returned’. That’s because they ran the same promotion during the 2016-2017 season, with more than 120 matches featuring a goal so late that the company refunded bets.

Here’s a little look at some examples of late goals in the 2017-2018 season, including the competition they were in, the match, the goalscorer and the time:

Competition Match Goalscorer Time of Goal
Premier League Tottenham vs Burnley Chris Wood 90+2
Premier League Wets Brom vs Watford Richarlison 90+5
Premier League Everton vs Arsenal Alexis Sánchez 90+5
Champions League Olympiacos vs Sporting Lisbon Felipe Pardo 90+3
Champions League Anderlecht vs Celtic Scott Sinclair 90+3
Champions League Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea Michy Batshuayi 90+4
La Liga Athletic de Bilbao vs Atletico Madrid Raúl García 90+2
La Liga Las Palmas vs Leganes Eraso 90+6
La Liga Valencia vs Sevilla Gonçalo Guedes 90+2

As you can see, the goals can come thick and fast towards the end of the game and it’s not always the team that you’d expect that scores them. Whether you’re talking about Chris Woods’s goal against Spurs for Burnley in the 92nd minute or Eraso’s 96th minute second for Leganes that tied up the points for visitors, it’s an unpredictable world when you’re looking at late goals in football. Why not get a bit of bet protection?

What Do You Need to Watch Out For?

There are a few things that you need to be aware of before placing your bet, just to make sure that your wager is eligible for the offer. Perhaps the most important thing to note is that you have to make sure that you place your bet before kick-off. This offer is for pre-match bets, so ones placed in-play or ones where you cash out won’t be refunded.

In terms of the official outcome of the game, Unibet will use the scorelines and scorers declared on the official Champions League, Premier League and La Liga homepage to decide any dubious results. The first result declared on those websites will be used to settle the bets, so if it changes at a later date then that’s irrelevant.

This offer is valid on both single and multiple bets, though in the case of a multiple the losing bet will be made void and the rest of the bet will remain valid. If you want to place a system bet then that’s fine; you just need to make sure that the individual bets rather than the overall one come within the stake limits. As an example, if you place a Yankee then all 11 selections will need to have a stake of between £5 and £30, rather than £1 which would amount to a total stake within the boundaries.

The bets have to be within Unibet’s odds tree in the company’s sportsbook, but they can’t be featured bets or one of Hoddle’s Tips. Your stake will be refunded to you within 48 hours of the bet being settled and there will be no turnover requirements attached to it.

Should You Use This Offer?

Few offers are as clearly advantageous to the bettor as this one. Provided you don’t tend to place either low or high stake bets on football games, there’s no real reason not to take advantage of Unibet’s 90+ Cashback promotion. After all, if your bet is a winner then nothing changes, nor is there any difference if the game doesn’t feature a late goal. If it does, however, then this mitigates any annoyance you might feel about it.
