Horse racing can be such a thrilling sport to bet on, with the pounding of the hooves on the turf and shouts of the crowds really getting the blood flowing. If the selection that you’ve bet on comes home, then that makes things even more pleasing for the punter. Sadly, though, it is a sport that can be all but impossible to predict, which is especially the case if you’re betting on some of the biggest events in the country. There is something incredibly frustrating about the horse that you’ve bet on just missing out on the victory, with any number of reasons being behind a horse coming second or even third.

Thankfully, Unibet have come up with a way of taking the sting off just such a situation thanks to their Money Back offer when horses finish either second or third. Although the offer isn’t available on every single race that the company covers, there are more than a few events that are available for the promotion so if you pick the races that you’re betting on wisely then you might just find that the pain of coming close but missing out is lessened a touch.

What You Need to Do

Unibet Racing Refund Bet SlipThe good news when it comes to this bet is that you can be on the receiving end of the offer without having to do much. As soon as you place a bet on one of the events that qualifies for the offer, you’ll find that you have been given an opt-in option on your betting slip. You still need to meet the promotion’s requirements in terms of the actual bet you place, but as long as you do that then you’re covered in the event that you come close but just miss out provided you tick the opt-in box.

The key thing that you have to ensure that you do in order to take advantage of the promotion, other than betting on one of the selected races, is to place a single bet with a minimum stake of £1. Provided you’ve done that and your horse then comes in second or third in some races or just second in others, you’ll get your stake back. How your stake is returned to you will depend on which race type you’ve bet on and therefore which of the offers is in place.

Some of the races offered by Unibet will see your stake returned to you as cash up to a maximum of £10 if your horse comes second or third in the race. Other races offers you money back only if your horse comes second, with the stake money returned to you as a free bet and they will allow that up to £20.

Example Races

As a general rule of thumb, you will find that there will be a number of second place free bet refund races each day of the week, normally from meetings in Australia, France, South Africa and the USA, so they are spread throughout the day. The second and third place cash refund races are normally available for one race each Saturday, but can be more frequent during meetings such as Royal Ascot or the Cheltenham Festival.

Things You Need to Bear in Mind

There are, as you might imagine, certain things that Unibet want you to bear in mind before you place your bet with the aim of taking advantage of the promotion in question. The first thing is that the offer only applies to the specific races that they advertise it counting towards. You can place your bet right up until the start time of the race and take advantage of it. The races are confirmed on the Unibet website in advance but bets will only qualify from 9am on the day of the race. When it comes to get the money back as a free bet, it can be up to a maximum of £20 per race, whilst it’s up to £10 per race as cash when it comes to the offer on second and third placed finishes.

There may be instances where you place more than one bet on the same race. If that happens then only the first bet will count. You also need to ensure that you’re betting on races with at least five horses running in them or the promotion won’t become active. Bets on the win or the win part of the each-way market will count, but multiples won’t and neither will bets placed on other markets such as the getting without field. Your bet also needs to be placed using cash rather than some previously awarded free bet token or the like. The offer won’t be valid in instances where a dead heat is declared at the race’s conclusion.

The final things to bear in mind are that bets placed on the ante-post and wagers on future races, the tote or pari-mutuel markets won’t count. The refund of your stake or the free bet should be issued within 24 hours of the race’s conclusion. The promotion will be settled according to the official result on the day, so any amendments done after the fact won’t count.
